Hi de Hi! by The Square Drama Circle

24 September @ 7:30 pm - 26 September @ 9:45 pm
£8 – £10

Hi-de-Hi! comes to Dunstable this September as Square Drama Circle celebrates 50 years of community theatre and its landmark 150th production.

Join us at The Square Methodist Church Hall for three evenings of classic British comedy, nostalgia and holiday camp chaos on Thursday 24, Friday 25 and Saturday 26 September 2026, with performances beginning at 7:30pm each evening.

Based on the much-loved BBC television comedy created by Jimmy Perry and David Croft, the stage adaptation by Paul Carpenter and Ian Gower takes audiences back to the late 1950s and Maplins Holiday Camp.

The new season is under way and the Maplins staff are once again attempting to keep the campers entertained — although things rarely go entirely according to plan. Entertainment manager Jeffrey Fairbrother finds himself surrounded by the larger-than-life personalities of the holiday camp, including enthusiastic Radio Maplin announcer Gladys Pugh, aspiring Yellowcoat Peggy Ollerenshaw, resident comic Ted Bovis and his young sidekick Spike Dixon.

With romance, rivalry, misunderstandings and plenty of comic mishaps along the way, Hi de Hi brings the familiar atmosphere and characters of the television favourite to the stage.

This production also marks a particularly special moment for Square Drama Circle. The Dunstable community theatre group began performing in 1976 and celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2026. Hi-de-Hi! is the group’s landmark 150th production, continuing five decades of amateur theatre created and performed by local people.

Whether you remember the original television series, enjoy British comedy or simply fancy an evening of live theatre in Dunstable, we would love to welcome you to the Square.
